Nice N' Naughty: Some Nook reviews drive me up a wall...: And they're NOT even for my books. What am I talking about you ask, well just sit back and let me tell you.

I have a Nook and I love my Nook (thank you my sexy man for buying it for my birthday *wink*), I scour the NookDom every day looking for a good read. Now there are a lot of good free books you can download and I do. I love reading, Hello *knock, knock* I'm an author, of course I read. I read anything from Shakespeare to the Erotic in all sub-genres.

So, what has me in a tizzy...

OK, so I'm surfing and find a book that looks interesting. It's M/M -- ladies and gents, it's soooo obvious before you even read the overview what the genre is as there are two male chests on the cover. NOW what do you think it's going to be??

So here I am tulling through the reviews and a lot of them are very flattering to the author and the book, when I run across this...

"This is so disgusting, two men, how can you write this trash."

Well I took a double take just to make sure I was reading it correctly and immediately got pissed at this Anonymous reviewer.

SERIOUSLY person, are you Serious?? You cannot tell me you did not know what you were downloading to read! The book cover, the title the OVERVIEW for cripes sake says it all!
Creative Criticism is one thing but bashing just to bash, is what's disgusting!

If you're not into reading about different sexual situations, then don't freaking download a book that is not straight-laced, vanilla, or you're type of enjoyment. If you don't like 'spankings' then don't download a 'spanking' book. How freaking more logical can I say it??

The sad truth is, you know they wrote it just to be mean and bash the author and the book.

Item two...

Found another great book, you can tell from the cover it may lead to a menage, Yes, that's a threesome, three people in one sexual situation. I mean come one, there's two male chests and a female on the cover. The overview states it's a menage paranormal, Hmmm...can't get much clearer than that right...or so we thought.

Reviews all good, until this pops up...

"Well it was a good book until there was an anal sex scene, they should have made that more clear, it's gross, I never would have downloaded it if I knew there was anal, it just puts me off."

Ok, it puts you off, no biggy, but let us step back here a moment and take a look at that cover again...*Carefully eyeballing* and YEP I have come to a conclusion...

Are you blind??? Again, Seriously?? There are two men and one woman on the cover, it's an EROTIC read, did you not think that with two men and one woman there may be some anal??

Alright, I can see if there was only one man and one woman in the story, where the reader might have stated such if 'anal' wasn't listed in the overview, but it's still an EROTIC read, it can happen. (I know because I wrote an anal scene in A Slave's Way Out and that's one man on one woman.)

Nook readers you also have to remember, this is not the Publisher's website. Most publisher's give a little more information about what's in the book, like...anal or BDSM or M/M or F/F scene, even if you're looking at the EROTIC books.

But what do you think is going to happen with two men and one woman?? Maybe not in every book, but with a menage there's a good possibility there will be some anal going on.

All I'm saying is if it's not your type of read, then why bash the book after you download it?? If you download it just to see what it's like and you don't like it, well, that's ok. There's something called responsibility on your end too, it just didn't download on it's own. You had to hit the button TWICE to make sure you want the download.

I love and I'm sure my fellow authors love to hear CREATIVE CRITICISM for their works.
If you don't like a book, there are ways you can point that out without being nasty and mean.

Yes, I have my first review for A Warrior's Longing!! Yes I am thrilled even though I received 3.5 stars. Why you ask...

Simply. If someone does not review or give creative feedback then how do I know what I need to do to improve myself as a writer.

I don't belong to a critic group, due to the closest one on over an hour away. I'm sure I can find one online, but with the way I've been working the day job lately, well I've lost contact with the awesome writers I used to chat with on a daily basis through Yahoo, and I'm lucky if I have a day a week to give toward my writing.
Hmmm...that doesn't sound right now does it?? I guess that's for another blog to sort out.

Soooo, back to the point at hand.
Thank You Victoria Cross and Night Owl Reviews!! I do appreciate you taking the time to read my work and voicing your creative words. I will most defiantly take all into consideration and make sure my next read is better!

A Warriors Longing is definitely steamy. The chemistry between Lord Gage and Meiken is strong enough to raise anyone’s blood pressure. C.A. Salo did an excellent job blending the sci-fi, romance and erotica genres. Not everyone can do it so seamlessly. However, while the overall plot is solid, some scene transitions seem rough, almost rushed. Some of the characters seem to be rushed in, while others seem to be rushed out, leaving loose ends that seem to be forgotten. I think with a little bit of character building and a little polish, the book could be much improved. Not that it’s horrible, by any means. It just seems rushed. Despite the rushed feeling of the book, it was a pleasant read, and I wouldn’t hesitate to read any of C.A. Salo’s other books.

I hope everyone had a safe and Happy Christmas for those who celebrate.

I on the other hand have been fighting one heck of a head cold. 'Grrrr Arrrggg'. That's right, from Christmas Eve on, I've felt like my head's going to explode and I can't breathe.

Today's a bit better, I woke up and by George my head wasn't pounding. YAY!!

I followed a few home remedies and used a sinus cleaner. I know it sounds weird, sinus cleaner...really?? But yes. You add warm water to a sinus relief powder that comes with it and lean over the sink lol. I didn't think I could do it, but it really wasn't that bad.

Hopefully by tomorrow I'll be re- bounded and back to my old self. I have a short drive to make and I'd like to be clear headed, especially on the highways. And I'd also like to get some writing done on the new Sci-Fi I'm working on. :-)

Yep, saw it a lot myself on our vacation. From Florida to Massachusetts. Going up and coming back.
Ok, so, let's give them kudos on actually trying to fix the highways and byways, but what's with drivers when there are "No" working signs and all of a sudden we're slamming on our brakes in the middle of the highway, then we get back up to a good 30 MPH and Blamo, slamming on the breaks again, then you have the well, I'll whip over to this lane and that lane and this lane again, because they look like they're going faster people [ Insert Homer strangling Bart ] Quick give me my blood pressure meds, LOL.

Living in my part of Florida, I've noticed that here we have some pretty decent roads. What can I say...Mass hasn't changed. You still can't see the lines on the Mass Pike at night and the instant ramp on, *here we come* to the ramp off 200 feet from that...yeah, don't know how I didn't crash while learning how to drive, LOL. Oh but wait... I still say in crazy driving situations, which are usually in big cities ..."Don't make me go Mass on you!" LOL.

What do you do at Midnight??

So, I'm sitting at the kitchen table the other night, because that's where I've set up my net book to write at the moment. It's midnight and I'm typing away on a new Sci-Fi erotic romance that popped into my head. I look up after completing a sentence to see my 14 year old on my desk top in the living room watching some Japanese Anime (It's home school's two weeks out summer time, so I've been a bit lenient on the bed time) and I whisper his name, (The man of the house is fast a sleep by now and I don't want to wake him up) so my son looks over and I start waving like a crazy lady, LOL. He gives me that, 'you're weird lady look' and then starts waving back with a big smile on his face.

Writing near midnight is easy for me. I think it's because I've had time to decompress from all the junk during the work day, my mind is cleared and I can focus on the story I want to get out.

After starting the editing process over the last few chapters of a book around midnight and finishing around 2 AM, I sent it to my editor and she said it was the best editing I'd done on the book. She didn't see anything wrong with my words, my grammar, or my dang little run on sentences LOL.(yeah, grammar still kicks my butt in several ways LOL)and ya know what...Best Selling book of the year 2007 at Whiskey Creek Press Torrid. YAY. (That would be A Slave's Way Out :-) )

So there's something to be said about Midnight. Although It's not to easy getting up for the day job when I pull all nighters *sigh, wink* LOL

Bloggers Block scratches head???

Is that what I have, well I think so. I've had writers block and that's a nightmare. Can blogging block be any better? No, I don't think so. For the last three weeks and even today, I've had the hardest time coming up with an issue to blog about, soooo, I didn't.

But...I'm here to say I think I have bloggers block, how much of a pain in the as$ is that!! I didn't want to go another week passing a posting by, so I thought I'd share.

Hopefully I'll be re-energized in a few weeks. I'll be heading out for a family vacation and one of our stops is Salem, Mass. It's kind of ironic if you ask me, why, well because...I was born and grew up in Mass, lived there my whole life until my early 30's then moved. Never once visited Salem, and now that I live in Florida...where do I go, LOL. Salem. A little backwards but hey, oh well. LOL. That's OK, I haven't been to St. Augustine since I moved to Florida. :-) BUT, we are planning a trip there for...Halloween. To be in the oldest city in the US on Halloween is something I really don't want to miss for another year and honestly, you really have to love the beaches on the Atlantic side of Florida. The Gulf is OK, but growing up a Mass kid, I'm kinda biased to the Atlantic.

Well, I guess I had more to write about than I thought, LOL.

Two Weekend Movies

Ok, so, we had two new movies delivered to us this week from Netflix. Ninja Assassin and Legion.
Both I thought were really good action movies.

Legion was basically about the big guy sick of humanities bullsh*t and sends an army of angels to possess us and wipe us out. Of course well known arc-angel Michael takes a dislike to this and comes to Earth to save humanity from themselves.
As we sat and watched this flick, all I could think about was, “Well when are they going to tell us what’s going on, why did Michael come to Earth.” The plot was a little lacking. If they had extended the movie to two hours, I think it would have given them time to get it together a bit more and not leave me confused as to what was going on. All in all it was a good movie, the action was there, the gun fire, the killing and some grossness, LOL. Yes I said grossness. What I really liked was that it didn’t leave all the good guys alive. People die in war, good or bad and this movie didn’t take sides.

I thought Ninja Assassin was pretty damn cool. I like martial arts movies…it’s all Bruce Lee’s fault! The action is definitely there! The plot was together which held for the ending of the movie. There was a lot of blood, hey that’s to be expected with Ninja’s right, swords, stars and all the good stuff. But I do have to say several parts were a bit way bloody and violent. I actually turned my head during one bathroom scene where the hero had to kill a guy in the bathroom to gain his allegiance to the family. What I really liked was the slightly romantic undertone to the flick between the hero and a woman of his clan. I’m not saying anymore if you haven’t seen it, LOL.
Now my boyfriend thought the plot was lacking, but the action made up for it.

All in all two good movies.

My Dad is the best Dad in the whole wide world and always will be!! He' s always been supportive of my writing and is there to say you can do it, how's your books doing, don't worry I'll take care of the hotel for your convention, just go and have a good time.

He gets mad when I send him a Sears gift card for Father's Day and tells me "I'm gonna smack you upside the back of the head."
I say...You know your dad loves you when...he wants to smack you upside the back of the head, LOL.

Again, Happy Fathers Day to all those dad's out there who deserve it!

Writing Exercises

Does anyone do writing exercises to keep the mind focused on writing so you don't get writers block?

Or have you had writers block and tried them? Did they work?

I look at the ones in my Writers Digest magazine and think yeah OK, and just flip the page. Both when I was having the "block" and not. I know they help a lot of writers, but it doesn't work that way for me. I have to be in the right emotional state of mind, the right "time" shall we say. I just can't sit down after working all day and expect something to come to me, the day job needs to disappear and the mind needs to be in a 'relaxed' state, and of course I need the plot ticking away within my skull.

As long as the ideas of a story come to me, I'm usually all set. I mentioned in a previous blog, that one hit while I was driving and that was in no way a good thing. LOL.
But I have noticed that if I am in a writers block, and the "exercises" bore me, I just have to sit back, relax and let the mind go blank. Eventually something within eye sight or hearing range will spark the writing idea, whether it's 10 minutes, 10 days or ten weeks. Which by then can become frustrating, yet if i try to "push" it, *eyes rolling up* yeah, that doesn't work to well.

I am however thinking about going to visit my local RWA Chapter. Being a solitary writer can be lonely sometimes and it's good to mix it up with others who share your passion for your craft, that can advise, critique and smile at you.

So on that note...I hope everyone has a great day and a better week ahead!!

Vacation -- What's that??

LOL, Yeah, OK. Well this girl forgot how much of a pain in the butt it is to plan for a vacation, seeing as how I haven't been on one in five years.
The when and time we're going to leave, the Atlas and Map Quest and GPS, plus the directions from the family to "Avoid" those problem places.

Yeah, I go with my Dad and brother's travel routes, seeing as how they travel those areas for 90% of their jobs and even though it's 'orange barrel season' (ya know - construction)they'll be able to get me around the worst of the worst and through Hartford Conn. before rush hour YAY *Snoopy Dance* However, my mom has a secret route that bypasses Hartford, hmmmmmm -- "MOM, get your pen out"

Because folks, this girl and the family is trucking out from Florida to Massachusetts and then back again, stopping over in several more states to visit more family WOOT!! All of this in a WEEK! Can you believe it!!

Yet somehow, I see myself needing a vacation when I get back. LOL.

And the boy doesn't know it yet...but several stops will be made along the way and while he'll think it's just part of the road trip--which it will be *cough* it will be a home school extravaganza!! YAY...Oopps SHHHHHHH -- don't tell the teenager, he'll just rebel, LOL.

Crazy Store Prices

With veggies becoming much more expensive in the stores, I've decided to take matters into my own hands.

YUP...I planted a garden.

Now farming is in my blood, my grandfather had a huge farm up north (people down here call them ranches.) It was a pig farm, but there was every animal you could think of, including work horses to pull out the fallen trees in the fall to heat the house for the entire einter. Huge fields of corn, hey if it didn't sell it went to make cow corn for the winter.

My grandmothers personal garden was nothing to sneeze at. It was a good half acre and had everything from corn to strawberries. We never went without a good pickle or blackberries in the winter time. Yummy!! And there was an apple orchard about about an acre in size.

So I've done what I can and we have two raised beds, one herbs, one veggies. The romaine lettuce is coming very well and we've been snipping leaves off for sandwiches. The sweet banana peppers and cubana peppers are belling. I'm waiting for the 72 bell pepper seeds planted to start peeking up out of the soil and the only tomato plant to start doing it's thing.

I can't wait to start with the summer squash and zucchini!!

My herbs, I love fresh herbs!! There's nothing like walking out doors in the morning before the heat of the sun, OK it's Florida, so I go out after the sun has gone down to gather my mint or sweet basil or chives for baked potatoes that night with dinner.

Fresh grown goodies...it's a good thing :-)

So I'm driving down the road, when....

Yeah, I'm driving home the other day from my second work site and BAM...a story plot hits.

Yes, a story and as it starts working out the dialog with in my brain, I have to remember that, HEY I'm driving, yep that's a green light, no brakes needed.

Not the safest time to have a plot running rampant through the thought process, so those internal fingers quickly push the aggressive story plot to the side. Turn up the radio and start singing, DAMN no good! Music encourages my muse. Turn down the radio and open the windows. Blast of 90 degree heat and crazy Florida humidity.
Well it helped stop the plot and started the old complaint about, why in the heck do I still live in Florida when I can't stand the humidity. LOL

I tell my friend what happened and she chuckled at me. Yep, she knows that feeling of your just doing something and then a whopping plot hits you upside the head. She writes children's books.

Mention it to someone else who doesn't write and it's "Well keep your eyes on the
road and pay attention." And I just say right back "Well DUR dumbass."

Huh, well the plot is Sci-Fi, off of Earth and has some interesting characters LOL.

So, I'm going to leave off there with just a little promotion...

Avatar The Movie

Finally I was able to watch the movie Avatar last night. I really did enjoy it, the special effects were awesome.

However, I couldn't help noticing how much of a resemblance our own history with the native peoples of our planet have with the natives of Pandora against an intruder onto their lands. Oh you know, The lets go in and take what we think is ours no matter what we have to do syndrome.

Only the big blue natives of Pandora won their fight. Dare I say it...why yes I will, YAY *Clapping hands*

This book's release has been long in coming for me. I wasn't able to work on it steadily, but in pieces a little each day. The outline was written while in the waiting area as my car was being worked on because that was the only down time I had that day.

Men and Video Games

Ok, what's the deal anyway? Sure they're fun, but I grew out of video games when I hit 17. I mean we're talking about Star Wars, PacMan and Ms. PacMan, Asteriods, Donkey Kong...Oops, is that giving away my age, LOL...Ahh, who cares, I'll be 39 in May ;-)

I do have to admit, how far the graphics on the games have come. I'll sit and watch my teenage son or my boyfriend play. But sitting hours on end playing is just something I can't get into anymore.

Although, my son did have me sit and play Baukugan (If that's even spelled right?) on his XBox 360. Ok, so it was fun, and it lasted for all of thirty minutes. LOL. We had to finish getting him ready for his week of fieldtrip/roadtrip and adventure to North Carolina.

I'm guessing it's like my writing to me. I will sit for "hours on end" writing, editing, reading and that gives me enjoyment. And the both of them will sit and read for about an hour or before bedtime before they have to get moving.

I'd just make it known that video gameing happens on week nights, after school work, chores and dinner are done, but mostly on the weekends if outings aren't planned.

What are your thoughts on video games? Do you sit and play, watch or go do something else?

Eating light for the summer - Would you change your menu up?

With the warmer months upon us, I've decided to do something about the little complaint going around the house.
"I need to lose a few pounds."

So I've asked a friend of mine for several vegan receipes. Her look was commical!
"You Miss meat eater, the bloodier the better, wants vegan receipes?"

I said, who better than to ask than you.

It's not like I intend a full vegan menu, not only me but my men would never go for it. I all ready got "The Look" when I mentioned it, but I came back with..."You've been complaining too and it's only a few days a week and our big dinners slow down in the summer." The argument stopped there, LOL.

But I figure what's wrong with switching two or three meals out a week. Veggies are good for us, and besides, I don't like eating heavy meals in the summer time. You know those "comfort meals" good for a rainy or old day.
It's summer, it's hot and my belly rejects a lot of heavy stuff. OK so maybe it's all in the mind, but I have noticed in past years, that I do lose a few more punds in the summer. *YAY ME* right, LOL.
I'm also intending on building two raised beds, one for veggies and one for herbs. Not only for hte meals I intend to cook, but have you seen the prices in the stores lately? Holy Moly Batman! Talk about price gouging.

So I ask you, do you notice yourself eating lighter during the hot and humid months? Would you change up the menu a bit?

I know I haven't posted in two weeks, Apologies for that!!

I've recently been promoted at the day job. You know, that job you have to keep from becoming a starving artist :-) and the first round of edits hit my eyes for A Lady's Challenge (Sequel to A Slave's Way Out) releasing in May 2010.

Soooo needless to say, I've been super duper busy and had to prioritize. Not that blogging isn't a prioity to me, but let's use this example of my man honey to me:

"You're not doing any work this weekend, no office, no phone calls, no talking about work, no writing, no editing, no nothing. You're to sleep as late as you want, get up and do nothing. If you're on the computer, you better be doing something not work related."

Yes that was the actual order. Now for those who personally know me, I don't take orders very well. Hell if I did, I would have joined the miliary at some point in my younger life. Not that I'm over the hill but you know, after high school.

Creative criticism is totally different :-) If it wasn't I don't think I'd do well being an author.

But yes, I did listen and I did obey (for once in my life) LOL and the days were peaceful and enjoyable.

The First round of edits are FINISHED!!!! I'm doing the Snoopy Dance and I have the rest of the day to go play in the dirt with my flowers. *Yay Me*

Oh wait, I have to pick up the man child (that's my son) and go grocery shopping.
Blah to grocery shopping!! ;-P - at least I'll have the boy with me to lug grocery bags, Hahahaha.

A Week in the Life...

The car acted up...Boo -- Fixed it...YAY.
A promotion with the day job...YAY -- Late the first day because the car engine sezied -- BOO Hiss Hiss -- Boss not mad (sorta)...YAY.
Looked online for cars...YAY -- Okayed for car loan...YAY.
Went car shopping to feel them out -- Blah -- Walked out on several salesmen -- LOL -- Will be back next weekend to buy one of them, Hehehehe --
Have to share one car...Blah.
First time seeing niece...BIG YAY!!
Grandma having 85th B-day today...YAY!!!!
Well that about sums up the week. Life hit with lemons so we made lemonade. It's been an experience. We were joking around about adding a puppy to the mix to complete the chaos this week...Ya right - I told them NO! LOL!

The edits for A Lady's Challenge (Sequel to A Slave's Way Out) have started!! She will be released in May 2010!!

When & Where does the Writing Bug Strike You?

Authors and Non-Authors Alike. Everyone has to write, right.

So where is you're favorite place and when?

Where & when does the creativity flow?

Is it sitting in the back seat of your car at midnight, at your desktop at 9 AM, sneaking away with your laptop at lunch time?

Does the mood need to be right? Do you light candles, play soft music for that love scene or alternative rock to get the rhythm going for that fight scene?

Do you need as little distractions as possible? Or does having the kids running around with the TV on go unheard on deaf ears as your mojo drums on the keyboard?

When the idea of a plot comes to you, do you immediatly head for the computer, grab a piece of paper and pen or go into a daze and plot it all out in your head?

For me, it can hit anytime, anywhere. Sometimes I need just music to keep me on track, othertimes I can sit and write through Halo 3 being played out on XBox 360 and kids yelling to FIRE, FIRE, FIRE. YOU MISSED, THERE'S ONE COMING OVER THERE GET HIM!

I like to have different music playing depending on the scene I'm writing in, and plot most of the manuscript or the whole thing out in my head before I sit at the keyboard. So if the honey's driving and I'm sitting there not talking. It's not because I'm ignoring him, LOL. I'm plotting, :-D

Yeah, he's kinda gotten used to that. LOL.

Valentine's Day

I do hope everyone has a wonderful time with their sweetheart if they have one and if not, hey you can still have fun with friends (Yes, you can, I used to all the time before I found my honey).

We celebrated last night and all I have to say is "Yes" I was spoiled :-)

Cute bundle of goodies, chocolates, card, a brand new shower head with a removable second shower head built into the front of the first (which is going to be tried out this morning).

Dinner and...

A sweetheart necklace and bangle braclet with black and white diamonds. So yes, SPOILED!

Today's a calm day, the cat's in the window soaking up the sun. It's been cold here, it was about 32 last night and colder the nights before. Yes we even had "SNOW" in Florida (again) the other night, up in the panhandle.

It's grocery shopping and laundry day so how much better can it get, LOL.

My honey and I have an ongoing disagreement about who should receive valentine's gifts:

He says... The sweetheart you're with and your kids up to a certain age.

I say... I bought flowers & Chocolates for my grandmother, Sushi and chocolates for my mom, several things for my teenage son and if my dad lived near me, he would have gotten the small box of chocolates with 4 chocolates in it (That's a tradition in my family), a box of chocolates for my manicurist and a box of sweetheart candies with sayings on them for my son's hairsylist. (We've known them for almost 4 yrs and they treat us like family)

So what do you say?

I say, I'm heading to that new shower head to try it out!!!! LOL, Have a great day all!!

I love water features in the home and office. They’re relaxing, soothing and decorative all at once. I have several that light up when plugged in, so they look like flickering candle light against the wall.

The one in our living room is a Lotus Blossom so the water falls on several tiers of the petals; I added natural river stones to give it that natural earthy essence I love so much and a wrought iron candle holder behind it to give that extra bit of lighted ‘atmosphere’ if wanted.

The one in my office has an electric candle and sand with a rake, so I can rake what ever stress just floated my way :-)

I can't wait to start gardening outdoors. While I would love a Koi Pond, it's just not going to happen, so I'm sure they'll be several water features in my back yard.

Restarting an Entire Manuscript

Yah, wow, I'm doing it now. I had wrote a story that's been sitting on my good old computer for about three years now and one of my publishers is opening a new line. AWESOME I thought, my story meets that!!

But, one little issue...the story just wasn't strong enough in the reality zone and well it has to be, because this one is present day here and now read, no Sci-Fi or futuristic worlds to build. I had some wonderful feedback on how to make the book better, so that's what I'm doing now. As soon as I read the "New Line guidelines" I started DECONSTRUCTING the story.

Nothing like waiting three years to start a story over :-)

This is one area where I love technology and computers, COPY & PASTE people, copy and paste!!

At this point I'm not finding it hard to rewrite the plot line, I'm just going with the flow. I'm a panster writer. If I plot, it's all in the head and then onto the computer screen.

I am figuring on hitting a bump or several somewhere along the line of reformatting this read and hopefully will be able to pull through it with barely any frustration levels, but we all know how that goes :-)

So has any writer out there torn down one of their stories and started from new before? Any suggestions or ideas?

It's like writing a whole new story to me and exciting!! Plus I don't have to come up with the characters names again, LOL, that's usually the hardest part for me, LOL.

Morgan is an Alpha. He saves Alexis when a huntress swings her sword to kill her. Surrounded by Lycans, her inner beast forces her to change. Morgan is puzzled. He has no idea who and what she is. He met various species – fae, vamps, etc - before but he has never met one like her. What puzzles him the most is the attraction between them. He never wanted a mate before, but now the idea seems very alluring. But can he handle her?

It started off very interestingly. With every flip of a page, I went deeper and deeper. The story sucked me into it, and I just can’t stop myself wanting to know what might happen next. I enjoy every second reading it and was frustrated when it ended. Argh!! I so want a sequel for this. It just started to get really good in the end. C.A. Salo continues to outdo herself in this novella. Great read!

Cat Toys

I have a cat, she's about 5 years old and for the past year my son has been hounding me to get this lazer pointer they sell in pet and department stores for cats to play with.

Well I never picked it up because I thought, why in the heck would the cat want to run after a little red dot. It's not a ball that she can chase and pounce on or swat around or one of her other toys that she can touch.

So, let's just say that I gave in and we bought one for her stocking for Christmas.What the heck...she loves the stupid thing!

A red dot that she chases all over the place but can never catch and she goes crazy for it!

Her pupils get big and round, almost filling up her eyes and she goes after it like psycho kitty.

Do you have a pet? What's the craziest thing you never thought they'd like and they do?

The Short Work Week

Good morning all, or should I say afternoon. ;-D

Yes, it's past noon and I'm finally moving around. Seeing as how this will be the last four day week for quite a while I seemed to have taken advantage of it and stayed in bed until I felt like getting up.

Yep, I'm sitting here drinking coffee in my pink snuggie that my honey bought me for Christmas with my cat on my lap and the boys watching television, that's right the AMC channel 'The Unforgiven'. Haven't seen that in awhile.

Thanks to this four day work week, I was able to sit down, finish my art form for A Lady's Challenge (sequel to A Slave's Way Out) , releasing in May 2010 with Whiskey Creek Press Torrid. As well as take a look at several I've had sitting on my computer for a few years, to edit and sent out. Yep, I said a few years, more like four. LOL. What can I say, sometimes the day job and homeschooling just plain poop me out by the end of the day and when I'm sitting on the couch vegging, I'm looking at my computer knowing I have work I could be doing. That's the reason I decided to take my newsletter from posting every month to posting quarterly.
So yes, she's up! LOL.

What about you guys? Any take advantage of a short work week because of the holiday?

A Live Tree for a Christmas Gift

No, no dogs or cats, LOL, but we did received this Norfolk Island Pine as a Christmas present.

I thought it was great! Very innovative and original and it's good for the environment.
Hopefully I'll be able to keep it alive even with the instructions :-)

I'm planning on keeping it as a potted plant so I can take it with us easily if/when we move.

So what do you think? Live plants/shrubs/trees a good idea for a gift?

The Christmas shopping is done!! Finished last night, just a few stocking stuffers to grab and 24 hr Walgreens is good for that!!

My friend and I had a girls day yesterday and we made the most of it! First a nail appointment, hey we have to look good picking out those gifts right, LOL. Then home to bake some more goodies. Yes, the kitchen is still a mess, but we had a grand ole' time!! Then on to the shopping. Oh yes the shopping. *Grins* we even went down and hit the adult store to get some private goodies for our honeys *batting eyelashes* I'm stopping there, oh and Merry Christmas sweetie *flirty wink*

Now I have to say we saw three accidents narrowly escape each other from happening, at least that same amount in what looked like drunk drivers at various times in front of us and the local kids singing karaoke at Applebees where we stopped to grab the sampler. Some of them were actually quiet good. Do talent spotters or scouts or what ever you call them even hang out in these places?

So made it home about 15 to midnight and watched some Japanese Anime. I also made a decision.
I'm taking my newsletter from monthly to quarterly. Not to sure how many of you go to the website to check it out, but honestly, I've been either busy or just too tired with the day job, home schooling and well life, to keep up the monthly pace. Writing's become 'the' priority when I have some down time, so that's where my energies are focused.

I hope everyone out there has a safe holiday, watch out for those crazy drivers and eat well!!

Baking, Breads and more

Some good friends are coming over today so we can do some baking to send out to family members not to close to us. I have the bigger kitchen, so it's the girls taking over and the boys are running for the doors :-)

I'm making my honey's favorite, peanut butter cookies and maybe a couple of banana breads, plus a little goodie I saw. It's in a mason jar, you put walnuts, pecans, cranberries and smother and cover it with honey. I bought some local honey yesterday at our produce stand. So the YUMMIES are on!! Woot!!

Sequel being released MAY 2010

YAY, I can't tell you how excited I am to have A Lady's Challenge, sequel to my best selling Torrid title of the year, A Slave's Way Out, ready to hit the e-stands in May!!!! Is e-stands a word?? Well if not, YAY I just thought of one, LOL!

It took me a bit longer to write than I really wanted, but sometimes life happens that way.

Went Friday and finally had those two little snickery molars who always give me a problem, yaaaanked!! and I mean Yes they are out, both top and bottom same side!!!! I had full sedation, so I barely remember a thing Friday, which is Good :-D
Bad side, no real food for three more days. I'm on soft foods, which is ok, but know I'm wanting a steak, LOL. Doesn't that figure, LOL!

Walked around my little town's historic days yesterday. It was cool! We had a free hayride around the center blocks, walked down historic Avenue of the Oaks, stopped in the museum and bought some books at the library's book sale. I love it when I find those old books from the 1920's and 40's. I'm just an old book buff I guess :-) I only wish I'd had my camera with me, but I wasn't exactly planning on going anywhere today. So Next year will be camera year *Grins*

Now onto Wal-mart tonight to pick up a few Christmas presents and wrapping paper.

Harlequin has gone along and entered the self publishing world. They did do what they said and changed the name. They are now Dell Arte Press.

I did chat with a friend of mine who knows several H authors. Apparently not all are happy with the self publishing route H has taken.

Not being an H author, I guess I can view the issue from both sides of the road.

1. H wants to expand their business, that's what it is, A Business Decision. I mean come on, the economy isn't the greatest, everyone out there is looking for a way to keep bringing the bucks in.

2. Published authors with them can feel a bit put off. It takes a lot of hard work getting picked up by H and now you can - self publish...Hmmmm.

Harlequin responds to criticism of its self-publishing arm with a new name

In the wake of widespread criticism over its self-publishing imprint, Harlequin has changed the imprint’s name from Harlequin Horizons to DellArte Press. As Harlequin publisher and CEO Donna Hayes said it would, the company renamed the imprint to a designation “that [does] not refer to Harlequin in any way.” There is no mention of Harlequin on DellArte’s Web site.

Late last week, Romance Writers of America and other writers' associations spoke out against the November 17 announcement that Author Solutions had teamed with Harlequin to form Harlequin Horizons, an imprint for self-published romance authors. RWA deemed Harlequin no longer eligible for RWA-provided conference resources—meaning the publisher would not be entitled to enter any award competitions. Harlequin publisher and CEO Donna Hayes said the company was “surprised and dismayed” at RWA’s actions and said it would change the imprint’s name.

Harlequin did not respond to a request for comment this morning on the name change or if it was back in the good graces of the RWA. The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers have called for Harlequin to completely cut ties to the self-pub program.

So tell me, what are you thinking? Several major writing organizations are now blackballing H for this decision.

Personally, I don't think it's fair at all to the wonderful authors published with H.

BUT, if it's listed in the organizations guidelines, then maybe H should have thought about that while making their decisions. And if they are in the guidelines out there for all to read, then can H really be OMG, I'm soooo surprised to hear this....Ah, that would be a big resounding, NO.

And now, will this decision keep authors from submitting to H??? Only time will tell.

Yesterday on Publisher’s Weekly I came across an article where RWA, MWA and SFWA are up in arms about Harlequin wanting to call their new ‘self-publishing’ entity, Harlequin Horizons. Harlequin responded with, “We’ll change the name.”

Romance Writers of America and other writer associations yesterday spoke out against the announcement earlier this week that Author Solutions had teamed up with Harlequin to form Harlequin Horizons, a new imprint for self-published romance authors. RWA has deemed Harlequin no longer eligible for RWA-provided conference resources—meaning the publisher is not entitled to enter any award competitions. Late yesterday, Harlequin publisher and CEO Donna Hayes responded, saying the company was “surprised and dismayed” at RWA’s actions, and that it would change the name of the self-publishing company from Harlequin Horizons to a designation “that will not refer to Harlequin in any way.”

As PW reported Tuesday, Harlequin Horizons was set to recruit writers in two ways: authors whose manuscripts had been rejected by Harlequin would be made aware of the Harlequin Horizons option, and authors who signed with Author Solutions would be given the opportunity to be published under the Harlequin Horizons imprint. All services are on a pay-for-service basis.

An e-bulletin prepared by Margery Flax on behalf of Mystery Writers of America’s National Board of Directors said MWA was “deeply concerned about the troubling conflict-of-interest issues created by these ventures, particularly the potentially misleading way they are marketed to aspiring writers.” The MWA was refering to both Harlequin Horizons and the eHarlequin Manuscript Critique service, also aimed at aspiring writers. MWA said it would consider removing Harlequin from its list of approved publishers, declining membership applications from Harlequin authors, and barring Harlequin books from entering the Edgar Awards unless Harlequin agreed to discuss changing these ventures by December 15.

Russell Davis, president of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, Inc. is also firmly against the self-publishing program and is asking Harlequin to "openly acknowledge" to would-be authors that books in the program will not be distributed into brick-and-mortar bookstores ensuring “that the titles will not be breaking into the real fiction market.” The organization also wants Harlequin to acknowledge “that the imprint does not represent a genuine opportunity for aspiring authors to hone their skills, as no editor will be vetting or working on the manuscripts.” SFWA is calling for Harlequin not to simply change the name of the imprint, but to "discontinue this imprint and return to doing business as an advance and royalty paying publisher." Until they do, no Harlequin titles will qualify for membership in SFWA.

Hayes’s note reiterated ways Harlequin has supported RWA over the years and said she and her colleagues were “surprised to discover that the RWA sent a notice to its membership announcing this decision, before allowing Harlequin to respond or engage in a discussion about it with the RWA board.”

…What do you guys think? I’ve never dealt with self-publishers before, because frankly their ‘packages’ didn’t appeal to me. I’ve heard some bad and some good about the self-publishing route.

So, I've finally bought a netbook. Yep, I did it. I went to bestbuy yesterday and played with all the netbooks they had in the store, plus a few other things. Come on admit it, you can't just walk into a best buy and not play with the stuff, it's like a toy store for adults!! LOL.Anyways, after I found the one I wanted I came home and with the help of my honey (Mr. Technology) I compared what I wanted to others I'd seen to make sure I was getting the best price.
So with that said...I've gone with the Dell mini 10V. Yep, I like the keyboard a whole lot better than the others out there, although the HP mini was a close comparable with the way the keys were, but I haven't read to many good reviews on the HP and I have two Dell's now.
Here's a picture of what my netbook looks like...

It was all about the way my fingers felt on the keys to me, that was the major deciding factor in the choosing. Then the other smaller stuff.

I also have some great news on my finished sequel to A Slave's Way Out...

I have signed a contract for A Lady's Challenge with WCPT!!!! I'm stoked!!!! I can't wait to start the edits and then I can start on one more story line for this adventure out in space. :-)

Sequel Finished!!

Finally!!!! The sequel to A Slave's Way Out is Finished!!
It's been what 2 years...finally, finally, done, done, done!! *See me doing the happy dance.*

I fiqured out why it took me so long. I actually had started the manuscript before Slave's was published and had it finished about six months after. But I didn't like it, so the self editing started and it came up short on word count and then life's little adventures kicked in and writer's block occured and well two years later, LOL.

This past week as I finished with over the word count, liked what I had written and hit that send button, it came to me...

1. That while there's still stress with the day job, in a way it's lessened.

2. If the men in the house don't like that I hit the keys hard (My computer's in the living room) and they have to listen to clack, click, clack...to bad, they can go into the other two rooms that have TV's until I get my netbook *Grins*

3. The stories are coming to me again!! YAY!!

So not only have I finished the Sequel to Slave's, I've started on another and last of that line, I've started plotting two sequel's to Destined to Mate.

Okay, so here's an inside scoop on the sequel which can stand as a story alone from Slave's and you won't miss nay of the action...

Okay, so it's the day after Halloween. For the first time in thirteen years, I had a quiet, I don't have to go out, fight traffic, crowds and the fright of a little kid running out infront of my car night. Yes, the teenager went off to do his own thing, not trick or treating, all he wanted was the candy, admitted he's really not into it anymore, so I told him I'd buy a couple bags today to satisfy the candy hunger and he was happy with that, LOL. So now it's time to start having Halloween Parties. *YAY*
So not sure about the rest of you, but my butt was up at 7:23 AM (Damn turning back the clocks) :-) What did I do, well, I jumped right back into bed until 8AM, LOL.I do feel fully refreshed and rested though.
Florida's starting to cool down a bit, *YAY* it's to be in the low 80's today with less humidity and in the upper 50's tonight!! I've waited so long!! (Hand brushing across forehead)

I'm also in the market for a mini netbook. I've played with a few here and there, messed around with a Acer and A dell mini inspiration last night at Wal-Mart and went to read several reviews. I really like the key board on the dell. The buttons are just a bit larger, and felt more comfortable.

It seems the Toshiba mini has had a lot of negative feed back about the keypad being really sensitive and the mouse jumping around. That is one thing I want to avoid big time. I can't stand that.Anyone out there have a netbook they want to share the scoop on? I'll take the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
I need more coffee so I'm going to end here and say, Good Morning to Happy the Clock has been turned back day! You all got to sleep an extra hour and wake up earlier, LOL. :-)

Amazon VS. Wal-mart

Have you guys heard of the price wars Amazon and Wal-mart are engaging in over books? I've been following it briefly, but I have to say YAY for authors! With spending down abit because of the economy, retailers are fighting to keep their customers. So they're slashing prices or offering deals. Nothing like good healthy compatition to keep you going, LOL.

Amazon has fired the most recent shot in the pricing war with Wal-Mart that broke out Thursday, by introducing same-day delivery in seven major cities and expanding its Saturday delivery options. After Walmart.com cut the price of its top 10 pre-ordered titles to $10 (which includes free shipping) on Thursday, Amazon followed suit, and yesterday, both retailers dropped pricing on those 10 titles down to $9. Now, Amazon has announced it will begin offering same-day delivery in Baltimore, Boston, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Seattle and Washington, D.C. (it already offers the service in New York).

Amazon’s same-day shipping charge is $14.99, plus $3.99 per book. The cut-off time for ordering with same-day delivery ranges from 10:00 a.m. local time in New York and Philadelphia, to 1:00 p.m. local time in Seattle. Girish Lakshman, v-p of transportation at Amazon, said “We want to make online shopping as convenient as possible.” In addition to the same-day delivery service, the retailer will now deliver items ordered before the cut-off time on Thursday using two-day shipping on Saturday (instead of Monday).

Among the $9 titles is Going Rogue by Sarah Palin, due out from HarperCollins November 17. Amazon and Wal-Mart offer the book for $9, while BN.com and Borders.com are selling it for $17.39. The book's list price is $28.99. Other $9 hardcovers include Kindred in Death by J.D. Robb (Putnam), The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver (Harper) and Ford County by John Grisham (Doubleday).

Barnes & Noble New eReader

I recently read an article on Barnes and Noble's new ereader that will be hitting the scene shortly.

The ereader is said to have a touch screen with a virtual keyboard. Okay, now for someone like me who hits every button while the item is sitting in my purse, this could be a good thing, as long as it has a cover or keyboard lock on it. Supposedly hte screen is in color as well, instead of the black and white Kindle.

Does the color of the screen matter to you?? For me, I'm thinking not really, if you have the option of black and white or color, that's okay, but it's not going to be a sale buster for me.

It needs to feel right in the palm of my hand and have the ease and comfort I'm looking for in order for me to buy it.

I'm curious as to how it's going to fair against Amazon's Kindle and the Sony ereader. Barnes and Noble is after all one of the biggest book sellers around.

I'm psyched that you can now log onto the Barnes and Noble website and find my ebooks!!

Seasonal Allergies

My head's pounding, my nose is stopped up and I just want to close my eyes and go back to sleep.

Sound familiar? It's hit everyone in the family different, the boy is coughing up the sinus excretions (gross), the man has a headache and you've read my symptoms above.

Yeppers, it's seasonal allergies. Hate it!! It's as annoying as the damn litle lovebugs that infest Florida in the spring and now in September.

Can I close my eyes and tap my heels together three times...Go away seasonal allergies, go away seasonal allergies, go away seasonal allergies.

*Eyes peek open* DAMN it didn't work, LOL. Maybe tomorrow!

Netbooks - Any Suggestions?

Okay, so I'm in the market for a netbook.

Any suggestions out there?

I've scanned the internet, reveiwed and even tried out a few.

Sleak, A touch pad that "doesn't" move the mouse when ever your hand slides over or shadows it, no protruding battery packs and something that "WILL" last for 8 hours like advertised.

I don't need alot of garbage on it. All I need it for is picking it and my flashdrive up to go to a quiet room to write, and take with me on road trips. Maybe get on to check emails and post blogs, but that's it. All the heavy stuff will still be done on the desk top.

I've tried the Acer, it's okay, but reviews are mixed. Honey says he likes the Asus because of the textured touch pad.

I know my best bet is to just hop in the car and go to Ocala to Best Buy and try them all out.

But I want the inside scoop if any of you have it, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

As a kid I can say I was really picky about the books I chose to read and absolutely hated the ones the school said, “You need to read this.” And not only read it but talk about it and do a report on it.

Now I’m not sure about the rest of you but I hated being forced to read something that held no enjoyment or interest for me. Let’s just say I never received very good marks on those projects.

I do home school, but what I liked about the way the schools were handling the reading end of things here in Florida. Before I took my son out of public school, they let the kids choose which books they could read, in the level they’re in and there were quite a few choices.

Now as not only a home school mom, but a mom whose child has severe to profound dyslexia. I jump up and down when my son says, “Can I get a book.”

We do a program designed specifically for individuals with learning disabilities such as dyslexia to help him with his reading.

So we’re in Waldenbooks the other day and he says, ‘Can I get a book.’ Well heck yeah!!We picked up four books. Two Indiana Jones, a Japanese Manga and a book on how to draw.

So all in all it was a pretty fulfilling day of book shopping.

Some people have said to me that the Manga’s are like comic books because of all the pictures. Yeah but you know what, there’s words and words equal reading.

When he can tell me what the book was about, show me a page and read it to me. I’m one happy camper!!

So I let him choose which books he feels comfortable with and those he likes.

It puts a smile on my face when we’re in a store and he heads to the book section, looking for those Independent readers for teenagers. Hmmm, maybe that’s my next adventure. Writing a book my son can read, LOL.

If you have children, do you give them lee way in picking up that Judy Bloom or Wimpy Kid book? Or if you’re an aunty or uncle or grand parent do you pick up what you think they’d like, ask them or ask mom or dad? Or give them that gift certificate to the store and let them go?

Destined to Mate mixes a delicious combination of mythology, the paranormal and some hot loving sure to thrill a reader on many levels. Alexis is a heroine with a deadly secret. She’s also adorable, spunky, and an amazing mix of charming innocence and old world knowledge. She is also the owner of a book store. Imagine that. What I really liked about her are her kick butt abilities which totally outshine the guys, much to their chagrin.

All the guys except one, that is. Morgan is an alpha wolf. And he’s the best part of being an alpha – not overbearing and irritatingly autocratic but protective, responsible and fair. He also has being dominant in a relationship down pat – it’s a very seductive and potent level.Even when Alexis throws him for a loop he still doesn’t get in a snit over it. He is so very well put together; I didn’t have to deal with any male ego trips. What a relief.

One of the things that I personally look for in a lycan/paranormal romance is if there is bite. I find biting in passion between the hero and heroine very erotic and Ms. Salo nailed it. But I am not going to tell you who was biting who, because that would be telling. There’s no way I want to diffuse those moments, which for me, were very sensual and satisfying.

The secondary characters were fun. Val was interesting and a good sounding board for Alexis. There’s a term for their relationship but no way am I writing that here. Rafe simply cracked me up. What a unique spin for a second-in-command. Usually they are about as strong as the alpha, but poor Rafe has a very human and irritating thing that happens to him. I could not help but giggle the times it happened.

Alexis’ mom is a beaut. Wait until you meet her.

Destined to Mate is sure to entertain and excite, evoke interest and lust, and delivers a well written story with a character driven plot which delightfully showcases the pursuit of love in all its furry splendor.
